Case: Ving
Performance testing of Ving’s web site
The travel business is a highly competitive business and also a business where a significant – and increasing – share of bookings and payments are done on-line. As the leading travel company in Sweden and over 600,000 customers per annually, the web is business critical to Ving.
The challenge
Ving has an advanced .net based front end system which displays the content of the site for the end user, and which interacts with a complex and centralized booking system in the back end. Ving decided to utilize Apica’s Web Performance Management method to optimize front-end user experience and verify booking performance.
Apica’s application Apica LoadTest was used in the process of testing Ving’s web platform. Apica LoadTest is an application which performs loadtests of both public and internal (intranet) web sites. Apica LoadTest created a reality based load by using so called “synthetic users” from a range of different test centers, thus generating actual and real traffic patterns as they are created by the end users of the site.
Load tests are an important part of the optimization of a web site and its application’s performance. Load tests will check that the application delivers stable, low and consistent response times through the whole spectrum of load on the site. A load test often is – and should always be – the final step before a new or updated application is launched. By utilizing Apica’s external loadtesting facilities, the risk of unexpected disturbance is minimized.
"We are pro-actively and on an ongoing basis seeking to improve and extend the performance of our web site. Apica’s applications and solutions give us an accurate test of true peak performance in a fast and uncomplicated fashion", said Björn Eriksson, Quality Assurance Manager with Thomas Cook Sweden.
